About The Fieldtrip
This quarter we had a fieldtrip to Medan. There are various purposes to the fieldtrip. For instance to learn about the daily life in Medan, how the locals live and to see what Medan is actually like. In Medan we are to learn about culture and while we are there, we had work to do. There were tasks given from certain subjects which had to be done during the fieldtrip. So those are basically what we should do in Medan
On the first day it was basically going to Medan. We met at the airport around 6 in the morning. From then on we took off to Medan at 9. The first location we should have gone to was the Indian Church, however it was heavily raining. Therefore we skipped the Indian Church and directly headed to the Eco Lodge hotel. The hotel was located in a jungle. Well it seemed like a jungle because there was just too many trees. The accomodation there wasn’t too appealing, well it was in a forest. Nobody should expect much from a hotel in there. But it was enough for us students to sleep in.
The second day could be one of the most memorable day during the entire trip because had a devastating hike. The goal was to hike for an hour and a half to feed some orangutan. Instead, the teachers and the boys hiked for three hours and simply caught a glimpse of a monkey. We didn’t even get to see an orangutan. But no matter, it was a great exercise and we will never forget that experience. That day we left the Eco Lodge hotel and checked in at Micki Hotel. This was the best hotel compared to the other hotels. It was fine and everybody liked. Unfortunately we only stayed there for a night.
The third day we left Micki Hotel, we headed to Toba Lake. Toba Lake waas larger than I ever expected. It was huge and the water was crystal clear. However we didn’t stay at the shores, we took a boat to an island in the middle of Toba Lake called Samosir. But before we went to Samosir we visited PLT Asahan hydroelectrical powerplant. That place was also unexpected, it was huge and learned a lot about the hydroeletricity. After we finish in there we took the boat to Samosir and we are to stay there for two nights.
Fourth day was all about completing our CAS. Our CAS was to teach the kids from SD Horsik. There was a slight change with CAS because of some governor election. Therefore we were a bit late to do the CAS. But we still teached the students and on the boat there was some traditional Medan music. It was nice.
The fifth day, the last day. Most of the time was spent to go back to Medan area. We were at the bus for five hours. It was incredibly tiring. However once we reached Medan we went to Sun Plaza. That was where we did our shopping. Shopping was quite okay, we bought many things. Overall, the fieldtrip to Medan is so far the best fieldtrip ever. I hope the next fieldtrips will have the same amount of fun.
