Biblical Studies
For biblical studies this quarter we studied about the new testament books, we studied about Hebrews, Acts and the others. The assignment I have selected to upload is the IDU assignment with science. The four temperaments: Sanguine, Choleric, Melancholy and Phlegmatic, they said that each temperament can decide on a person's personality. The task is to find a bible character from the new testament for each temperament, so there will be four bible characters in total.

Sanguine – Apostle Peter
We would say that the Apostle Peter would match the sanguine personality because Peter was unstable with his emotions. It was one of the reasons why Jesus altered his name from Simon which meant “reed” into Peter which meant “stone.” We all know how Peter is a loveable and a warm person. He was very friendly; he was the life of the party. A good talker, very generous man and could lighten up your day. Especially after he gained the Holy Spirit, he became very faithful and reliable to God and became one of the greatest apostles that ever lived.
However, Peter was also very restless and emotionally unstable. He had difficulty when it comes to details. He feels insecure and fearful. For example when he cut the soldier’s ear that was really a restless act. He didn’t think before he acted, he was scared of what would happen in the future. So he cut the soldiers ear. Also when he denied Jesus’ name 3 times, at that moment Peter was definitely emotionally unstable. He even cursed Jesus’ name to get out of trouble, it proves how in fear he was. But that failure actually woke Peter up and opened the door for the Holy Spirit to enter his mind.
So Peter wasn’t a perfect human, he had positive and negative actions. But it’s okay because the Bible doesn’t tell us to be perfectly perfect, because of those errors Peter actually fits perfectly in the Sanguine personality. He is talkative, lively and restless. Sure his negative actions was really bad, he cursed Christ’s name 3 times. However, that incident opened his eyes and since then he became a loyal servant to Christ.
Choleric – Apostle Paul
The second temperament or personality is called choleric. The Choleric is the powerful person from the society, a choleric person would want to take control of every situation and make decisions for others. An example of a person from the bible who is a choleric person would be the Apostle Paul. Well Paul had a huge story before he actually became a apostle.
Before Paul became a apostle, he was persecutor to the Jews. He led the army to kill Jews and torture them. Based on the graph, Paul was definitely aggressive, quick to anger and very strong willed. He definitely had a leader personality; he was a very powerful man. To the Jews he was inconsiderate, he didn’t care about their lives, all he did was getting the job done. But then the Holy Spirit came to him, God changed him and made Paul one of the greatest apostles that ever lived. He became very loyal to God, he was a faithful servant and spread the gospel greatly. He was very active, optimistic and confident when it came to spreading the gospel, he had no doubts.
As a choleric person, Paul had positive and negative sides. Especially when he was still a persecutor, he was very viscous and cruel. He had no love to the Jews, however he was very powerful. He had authority and command over others. His deeds were indeed very bad, however the Bible accepts repentance and it was what Paul did. From being a Jew persecutor, Paul became one of the apostles. It was such a major change in his life.
Melancholy – Christ
The Melancholy person usually is a neat and intellectual looking person. A person who has a melancholy personality is usually analytical; they like to analyze the themselves and other people. Although they sometimes are happy, people who have a melancholy personality usually are sad, depressed, dark and gloomy. They don’t like large crowds and have few friends. Therefore a great example which can of this temperament would be Jesus.
Jesus had the characteristics of a melancholy person. He knew the fact that He was going to be crucified and he was very depressed. Although Jesus was very socialable with His followers, his disciples and other people. There were still people who hated Him, such as the Roman elders. Jesus was a perfectionist, He wanted to do things perfect, He was able to do everything perfect for He was God. A example of how Jesus was a moody person was when He found out that the temple had became a market. He was furious and turned it all upside down.
Well Jesus actually was a perfect person. Despite how He turned the whole market upside down, He was perfect. Even the reason to renovate the market was because of a good reason. They were selling in the house of God. By a biblical view, Jesus surely hasn’t done any errors at all, because He is the son of God. He did not sin, so the melancholy in Him is just a fraction of His true personality. His true personality is omnipotent.
Phlegmatic – Apostle Timothy
A person with a phlegmatic personality is usually peaceful, they would want to stay out of trouble, keep life good and stable. Phlegmatic like to rest and show steadiness, they are calm and easy-going. A phlegmatic person is a super introvert, a guy who is calm and rather observes then talks. Sometimes they are very selfish and stubborn. A person who resembles the phlegmatic personality would be Apostle Timothy.
We believe that Timothy is a phlegmatic person because he matches perfectly with the characteristics from the table. There are positive and negative characteristics from the table. The positive table is that Phlegmatic person is calm, peaceful and easy-going. While the negative side of a phlegmatic person is that he/she is stubborn and lazy. Well Timothy has those qualities, he and Paul were the closest friends. They were preached the world of God with great determination. They were calm and was able to spread the Word greatly. However there were times when they got stubborn and lazy, where they had arguments and debates.
We believe that Timothy almost was a perfect person, based on the bible Timothy didn’t do much errors in his life.. Besides some normal sins, like lying, Timothy was a great man. He was preaching to people with so much faith. Timothy was Paul’s student, even he was martyr which meant he died for Jesus. Afterall he was stoned to death. From a biblical perspective, his good deeds definitely exceed his bad actions so he is considered a good man.

Reflection
For this task, this essay, I believe we have done a good job. I said "we" because this essay is actually a group project. My group members were Reinhart and Thomas. The way we did the division of the work is simple, each group member find a bible character from the new testament according to the four temperaments, once it is decided which bible character is to be used, we research about how the bible character is really connected to the temperament. I believe we already it a good job in this task, we explained the person from the new testament with detail and we gave a detailed explanation for how the bible character connects with the temperament. The IB learner profile which I have learned through this assignment is open minded because I learned to share my ideas and learn to listen to ideas to make the essay the very best.
