This website here is a article about 2nd child syndrome. The article tells the story of a woman who ended up having her marriage ruined due to 2nd child syndrome.
http://www.parenting.com
This site is a parent’s blog regarding second children. The parent was a second child and of course she has a second child. Parents are my clients for this project so this blog is useful information.
Mom states that she had received enough attention during her childhood, however after having a second child was when she realized. She remembers how being the second girl, she received hand-me-down clothes, and never really received special privaleges for example getting shotgun.
As a mother, the first baby is always something new and exciting. Number two is exciting, however it just isn’t the same as the first one. No time to be festival since there is the first-born to be noticed. This means that you’re divided, with attention, patience, and etc. Not love though, love doubles.
Mom states that in some ways, it’s good that they have relaxed and loosened with the second child. However, parents should still provide good care for the second child so they won’t feel neglected. Keep the divided attention equal.
www.parents.com
I also used this website for another subtopic, it provides really good information. The client here is Holly Schrock a 31 year old mother from USA. She states that her second born Maggi as an attention seaker with a rebbellious attitude. For example she states "You'll say to her 'Go pick up the laundry right now' or 'Go put on your bathing suit so we can go to the pool,' and if she's in the middle of something, she'll look at you bald-faced and say, 'No!'" Schrock says.”
However Holly also states the bright side of her daughter. As Dr. Leman said, gender is a factor in this issue. Maggie is the second born with an older brother. This means she is sort of the firstborn female in the family which is why she has some leadership qualities. She is protective to her younger siblings and want to be like a little mom for them
Holly herself was also a second child. She was a middle child in the family. She admits that she also was rebellious just like Maggie. In fact when she was a teenager she got in a harsh argument with her parents and ran away for three days. Eventhough she has improved as a person and became calmer, she still doesn’t like it when being told what to do. "I don't like being told what to do, period."
