Science
For science this quarter, we have been studying about biology. To be specific we have been learning about the digestive and circulatory system. The task which I have selected in this digital portfolio is a research regarding food disorders. This research was quite useful during the test because food disorders is part of digestive system.

Anorexia Nervosa Disorder
Anorexia nervosa or anorexia is a disease which can be seen by extreme thinness of the body, intense fear of gaining weight, extremely restricted in eating and others. Many people having this disorder see themselves as a overweight peson even though they are obviously underweight. Eating food and controling weight become their priorities. People with this disease oftenly weight and eat small portion of food. Some people with anorexia nervosa may also have bing-eating followed by having a extreme diet, extreme exercise, vomiting on your own will and others.
People with this disorder will have a negative self-image, trying to be perfect, depression, dry mouth, sensitivity to cold, fear to be fat, going to the bathroom right after meals and many others. In essance, anorexia nervosa is a eating disorder that results people to lose more weight than is considered healthy for their height and age.
Despite the negativity of the disease, there is a cure. The biggest challenge in treating anorexia nervosa is making the person realise that they suffer from the disorder. Most people will deny it. A good start would be to let them gain 1-3 pounds per week. A number of treatments has been made such as increasing social activity, reducing physical activity, using schedules for eating and others.
Bulimia Nervosa Disorder
Bulimia nervosa or bulimia is a eating disorder where a person binges on food or has a regular period of overeating and feels a loss of control. A person having the disorder would use methods to reduce weight such as vomiting, laxative abuse. People who have bulimia would also have anorexia nervosa.
Women are known to have this disease more then men The exact cause of bulimia is still unknown. It could be genetics, trauma, society or family. The cause of bulimia probably results more then one factor. When a person suffers from bulimia, the perso will have a dry mouth, broken blood vessels in the eyes due to the strain of vomiting, rashes, pimples, small cuts across the fingers due to the foce of vomiting.
Usually, people who suffer bulimia would not need to go to the hospital unless they have a major depression in it or they are using drugs. When a patient suffers from bulimia, the treatment would depend on how severe the bulimia is. A nutritional therapy or support groups would be supportive to the patient.
Binge Eating Disorder
If you force yourself on eating chocolate during a birthday party until you have to change you pants, you know how to overeat. It’s not unsual to overeat though, when people become teens, their body demands extra nutrients to support their growth. But binge eating disorder is different from normal appetite increases or overeating because people with this disorder overeat on a regular basis. They eat very quickly and eat while they do activities, also they don’t stop when they’re full. Pople who suffer from this disorder are usually overweight, even obese. It results to low self esteem, lack of self-control and no confidence.
Emotions are also part of this disease. People who binge or overeat will eat when they are stressed out, upset, hurt or angry. The difference between binge-eating disorder and bulimia is that when you suffer binge-eating, you will not try to be thin. The person will maybe try a little but not excessively. Signs of this disease is eating rapidly, gain weight excessively, eat until uncomfortably full, feel disgusted, and others.
For many cases, finding a cure is difficult because the person would be ashamed in admitint it. The main cure would be to reach out to other people. Nutrition specialists can be help teens and their families to learn about health. A treatment for this disease can be to keep the person occupied, try to reduce contact with bad society. Don’t be friends with people you will discourage you, also try to find ways to express feelings such as through music, art, dance, writing and others. This will keep the person occupied and reduce them from eating.

Reflection
I believe that the work or research which I have done is good because the information I researched appeared at the test and I was able to answer it correctly. Since the questions which appeared in the test didn't appear much, so the research I made was actually enough and I don't really need to improve. The IB learner profile which I learned would be being a thinker and principled person because I had the motivation to research further then I would normally. For the thinker part, I had to be able to summarize the article I read and I had to think of what I wrote. The fundamental concept which I learned would be communication because I had to communicate with the teacher to actually understand some terms from the website since I wasn't really good at biology.
