Humanities
For humanities in the fieldtrip, we are to observe and research about organic farm. That was basically it, we had to research and answer the given questions. There was one other task which was to teach the SD Horsik kids about organic farm and the environment. That piece of information was supposed to be part of CAS. However, there was a change of events during that day, therefore we couldn't teach the students about organic farm.
1. What is an organic farm?
An organic farming is basically a form of agriculture which uses techniques such as compost, crop rotation and green manure. It is basically vegetables or livestock grown using natural sources of nutrients instead of using synthetic or chemicals. The example of the nutrients are compost and manure.
2. How does organic farming affect the environment in a different way than conventional farming?
Organic farming is farming using natural sources. It uses nutrients which makes the farming safe. While conventional farming is farming using industrial fertilizers and pesticides. Both methods of farming surely effects the environment. Organic farming effects the environment in a positive way. It improves the environment, it keeps it greener. It basically is a farming method which supports the environment. Conventional farming on the other hand damages the environment. Industrial fertilizers and pesticides are harmful chemicals, they are chemicals that ruin the environment. It damages the soil and eventhough a bit of pesticides or fertilizers won’t damage the environment. Using those chemicals everyday would eventually destroy the environment.
3. How does eating organic food affect our bodies?
It certainly effects our bodies because the food we eat is from the results of the organic farming. Since organic farm is a very natural method of farming, the produced food logically would be healthy. The reason to this is because no pesticides or any other bad chemicals will be used in organic farming. Therefore the received food will be clean, it won’t have any traces of chemicals. In order words, it is safe for us to eat, the food is healthy and we won’t get sick.
4. How is organic farming sustainable?
Organic farming can be sustainable, it depends on the owner. The owner has to be smart with the farming process. The owner needs to put less into production and try to get more results. It sounds like a very difficult task to do. The owner needs to spend less on the natural sources for the farming and try to improve the practises. For example the owner should buy less manure or compost and instead worry on the process to increase profit. If this is done then sure organic farming is sustainable.
5. How could organic farming help to address environmental issues in Indonesia?
There are countless environmental issues in Indonesia. One of them is pollution. Jakarta is probably the only city in Indonesia with massive amounts of cars and tall buildings. The transportations that drive around Jakarta definitely releases immision, This is bad because the pollution is greenhouse gas which can destroy the ozone layer. However, with more organic farming in Jakarta, the air can slightly be greener. And hence hopefully less air pollution will be released to the atmosphere.
