CAS Reflection
For CAS this quarter, we made a movie. The movie was group project and my teammates were Jeremy, Lee and I myself. The movie was to raise the awareness of teenagers regarding non renewable energy sources. So since the size of the movie was off limits, it was around 800 megabytes. I decided to choose the CAS Reflection Essay that was assigned by Pak Agung. It tells about both non renewable and renewable energy sources. Now I shall tell the proccess of the movie making. We decided to use Jeremy’s handicam because we believe that a handicam would be better than a normal camera. The story had to be about energy sources so when I made the script, it was about how two ordinary men changed the thinking of a wealthy man. That wealthy man used to waste energy, but the two men changed him into a much greener person. We took the scenes mostly in the dorm because it would be difficult if we did it in a person’s house. Once we finished the video taking, I compiled it in iMovie and made the movie.
Overall, I feel good about the project because in the end when it came to presenting the movie, they were only two groups who managed to succeed Pak Agung’s expectations and we were one of them. I am not going to name names though. The only way we couldn’t have made it better is if we did dubbing so the voices will be clearer. Also if the acting had better expressions, the movie would have turned out better.

You need to write 300-words essay reflecting on the CAS project that you have done. Your essay should be developed based on the following guiding questions:
1. What are the energy sources that we have today? Are they renewable or not?
2. What will be the negative consequences of using non-renewable energy?
3. What is the best renewable energy source to be used in your area (where you live in: Jakarta, Bogor, or other cities).
4. As a student, how can you encourage other people to use renewable energy?
5. In your own personal life what can you do to build your awareness of the importance of using renewable energy sources?
This quarter for CAS, the assignment that were assigned to us was to create a movie regarding energy sources. The objective was to raise the awareness of teenagers of wasting non-renewable energy. My groupmates were Jeremy and Lee. We decided to make a story about a rich man who kept wasting energy but then environmentalists came to his house to make him change his energy source. From this movie, I learned about energy sources; renewable and non renewable. Actually I already knew these facts from grade six, but it was forgotten until now. There are two types of energy sources, non-renewable and renewable. Non-renewable sources are like those which will be finished, examples of non renewable sources are like nuclear, fossil fuel, oil and gas. The other source is renewable source, it is a much greener source because it is unlimited. Examples of renewable sources are like solar panels, hydroelectrical turbines, windills, waves and others.
Using renewable is much better but we humans are used to use non-renewable sources because it is cheaper. But there are consequences of using non renewable energy, air will be dirtier, global warming and others. The consequences basically endanger the world. I believe the best reewable energy that I have seen is hydroelectrical turbines because once in Bali, I saw a resort which use this system. It was very cool and I was deeply interested. As a student, there are ways to encourage other people. The movie was a great example. Also, I could tell facts to other people so they will be persuaded to change their energy source. I personally have changed my awareness about this matter because I have known the dangers of global warming and pollution since I was a kid. I turned off any electronics if it is unused. I believe this is a good start and maybe you should also use this method.
